- A Resource About Rett Syndrome Foundation

- Several times each year I find a letter from a reader with a child
- suffering from Rett Syndrome and plea to write about the International Rett
- Syndrome Foundation (IRSA). Rett Syndrome is a very rare neurological
- condition that only strikes young girls, first described in 1965, severely
- affecting their development. Since, I could find little to write about, I
- usually passed over the question. However according to Ms. Kathy Hunter,
- President of IRSA "based upon population estimates performed in other
- countries there may be 10,000 undiagnosed cases in the U.S." and that perhaps
- it is the cause of "1/4 of all profound mental retardation in young females".
- That requires some attention. You may obtain more information from IRSA, 8511
- Rose Marie Drive, Fort Washington Drive, Fort Washington MD 20744 for a
- stamped self addressed envelope.
